Raoul Berke is a native of El Paso, Texas. He snuck across the New Mexico state line in 1976. When it
comes to gourd art, Raoul is self taught. His crafting techniques include pyrography (wood-burning),
carving, painting, assemblage, and pen-and-ink. His inspirations include Pueblo Indian pottery,
seventh-grade plane geometry, and the collective unconscious. Raoul is a recently-retired Jungian
Analyst and a half-retired (but fully-baked) psychiatrist. In addition to Two Pears, his work may be seen
at the Eldorado Annual Open Studio Tour and at the Collaboration Gallery on Old Santa Fe Trail in
Santa Fe.
