Faye was born and raised in New York.. She attended college in Boston at Northeastern University. Her
major was English. Evenings she attended the Cambridge Center for Continuing Education where she
studied life drawing for 3 years. Subsequent to taking the drawing classes, she began to draw
whereever she went, always traveling with a rapidograph pen and drawing pad. She developed a liking
and talent for capturing the essence of a subject with just a minimal amount of lines, also called gesture
drawings. Two of her favorite artists who took pen to paper are Aubrey Beardsley and Pablo Picasso.
She continues to draw these days as well as paint.
After completing graduate school at Adelphi University in New York City, Faye worked as a public high
school teacher for 18 years. She married, raised a family and worked as a single mom for a long while.
During these years, she continued to sketch, attend the Art Students League in New York City She
also does acrylic, expressionistic paintings of flowers and landscapes.
A gesture drawing captures a moment in time and space as well as the essence of whatever you choose
to draw. It's easy, quick and can be developed from that simple drawing to a larger and more complex
scene, if you wish.
Her work has been exhibited at The Woodstock Artist's Association in Woodstock, New York; Mary Lou's
in the West Village, New York City; Landmark Education Corporation in NYC; Barnes and Noble on 81 St.
and Broadway in NYC.and at The Art Students League In NYC. In Santa Fe, her work was displayed at
The Teahouse on Canyon Road in Feb., 2007 as well as at Counter Culture Cafe on Baca Street March,
2007.
Her focus in the arts is on gesture drawing, painting in acrylics, water soluble oils and watercolors as
well. The New Mexico landscape is inspiring in many ways. Refocusing takes time and is an interesting
process in itself.
